CoolSculpting® has been regulated by the FDA since 2010, but one of the most common questions we still receive today is, “Is CoolSculpting® safe?” The answer is, yes, it is a very safe procedure.
How is CoolSculpting® safe?
CoolSculpting® is the only non-surgical fat reduction procedure available in the United States. This technology safely delivers precisely controlled cooling to gently and effectively target the fat cells underneath the skin, while leaving the skin itself unaffected. In addition, CoolSculpting® systems are designed with built-in safety measures. If sensors detect that the skin is getting too cold, the system will shut down automatically.
One of the benefits, and another reason CoolSculpting® is safe, is that it’s a non-invasive procedure with no anesthesia. This also means that there is little to no recovery time. The lack of tissue manipulation and/or incisions also increases the safety level of CoolSculpting®. The most common side-effect after a procedure is a sore feeling in the targeted areas, as if you just had a strenuous work out.
Other side effects of a CoolSculpting® treatment are also associated with low risk. These include temporary redness, bruising, and skin sensitivity. While these symptoms may be uncomfortable, they typically do not hinder normal activities. All known side-effects are temporary and non-life-threatening, so you can rest assured after your CoolSculpting® procedures.
If CoolSculpting® is noninvasive, how does it work?
Fat cells below the skin are targeted using controlled cooling. Essentially, the fat cells become frozen and are permanently eliminated in a process called cryolipolysis. Over a period of weeks your body dissolves the fat cells, leading to a more sculpted figure. All without having any type of surgery! With regular exercise and a healthy diet, the results of CoolSculpting® are long-term. This is because the targeted fat cells have been dissolved and are no longer present in the body.
How else is CoolSculpting® safe? Each CoolSculpting® procedure is specially customized to the individual, taking into consideration your goals and your health. Your CoolSculpting® certified and board-certified dermatologist will evaluate your body using a 360-degree approach to fully understand your concerns and which areas you want to target.
